OUR STORY

We are The Ruff Project! Animals do not have a voice, so we are here to speak up for them. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and a group of animal loving people, dedicated to rescuing animals and giving them the utmost love and care, providing top quality veterinary care, and finding them a place to call home. We take in the unwanted, the abandoned, the sick, the injured, the old, and the young, making a promise to each and every one of them that we will find the life they deserve. A life full of unconditional forever love and care.
Saving over 1000 cats and 500 dogs, our work is never done, always striving to save more and more every year. In rescue, there are very dark times emotionally, physically, and financially. Times that we wonder if we can pull through and continue to do this. But with all of that darkness, comes a bright light. The times all the work pays off and that suffering animal is now living the best, happiest life they could ever live. The times when you connect an animal with their forever family and it feels so meant to be. The times we meet the most amazing people and animals that remind me of all the love and kindness that really does exist in this world. We rescue to make a difference in not only animals’ lives but also for those who adopt them.
”Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.”
We are set to change many worlds one paw at a time.
MEET THE FOUNDER
Hi, I’m Shaland!
For the last 10 years, I have dedicated my life to rescuing animals and it is the most beautiful and rewarding passion of mine. I truly feel this is what I was put on earth to do.
It all started when I found a litter of kittens that needed help. At that time I knew nothing about cats, but decided to take them home and nurse them back to health. I ended up keeping one of the kittens and finding homes for the others. During that experience I met the most amazing people and saw the impact these sweet cats made on their lives. Being able to save a life and bring so much joy to a family, was the most amazing feeling in the world and I have been rescuing ever since.
After 6 years of being an independent rescuer, I decided to become a 501(c)3 non-profit animal rescue called, Rescue Bae. Over the years, I have been working hard to save as many animals as I can, build a large network of volunteers and fosters, and spread awareness about the animal crisis we are in and why rescuing is so important. With this growth, it is no longer just me saving these animals, but a team of us. A team of us dedicated to the ongoing project of saving animals and trying to prevent more homeless animals.

OUR tEAM
Shelby
Shelby has been rescuing dogs and cats since 2016. Sometimes the odd animals like beta fish, sheep or ducklings. Whatever really comes her way! Her true love is for senior dogs and cats- ones that no one wants- simply because they are just too old, too tired, too sick or not your typical cuteness. Shelby previously worked in an industrial area with many stray cats and kittens, which opened up her eyes to animals in need. With her love of animals, she could not just see them suffer on the streets, so she started to learn about rescuing kittens and cats. She started with socializing the kittens and adopting them out. Then began the new adventure of TNR: trapping the adults cats to get them fixed and release them. She soon moved on to rescuing dogs and you can guess where she ended up 8 years later!

Drew
Drew is a lovable shaggy dog looking for his forever home.
He is gentle and mild mannered until it’s time to play.
He would make a great family dog.
